UNP calls upon Govt to rectify salary anomalies of teachers soon
by Ananda Kannangara
The main opposition UNP yesterday called upon the Government to soon
rectify the salary anomalies of Government teachers who gave up their
three-week long trade union action which disrupted the Advanced
Level-examination answer scripts evaluation process.
"Although the matter is over and the answer scripts evaluation
process is functioning smoothly, the authorities must not think that the
teachers are happy", UNP, General Secretary Tissa Attanayaka told the
`Sunday Observer.
He said all of them work with a pain in mind over this longstanding
unresolved matter and therefore, it is time the authorities look into
the matter in a positive manner and prevent them from resorting to
another trade union action.
"Apart from the recent trade union action, everybody knows that
school teachers had never in the past disrupted the education of
students and this too must be appreciated by the authorities," he said.
Attanayaka also called upon the Government to respect the pulse of trade
unionists in the country and not to harass them without fulfilling their
objectives.
Meanwhile, when contacted Education Minister Susil Premajayantha told
the `Sunday Observer' that the salary anomalies of teachers will be
solved within three weeks as the matter was forwarded to the Government
appointed `Salaries Cadre Commission' (SCC) last week. |
