Government to re-settle 2,338 displaced families

The Government will re-settle displaced families in their ancestral villages at Silawatura, Batticaloa and Mannar by clearing LTTE landmines the Minister of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, Rished Badurdeen said.

The Defence Forces have cleared over 80 percent of landmines in Silawatura and now clearing operations are being carried out in the Chenkaladi and Kiran areas and around 2,338 displaced families will be re-settled, he said. The security forces are in the process of intensifying security in areas captured by the Army recently.

The Army and Special Task Force (STF) with the help of the police and homeguards have provided security for people living in the liberated areas in the East, he said.
