Bus driver killed in explosion

A driver of a passenger bus was killed and two passengers were severely injured in a claymore mine attack at Nilaveli in the Trincomalee district at 11.30 am yesterday.

Defence sources said that the claymore mine was placed on the Trincomalee, Nilaveli road by the LTTE targeting Security Forces personnel.

However the driver of the bus carrying civilians caught in the explosion was killed instantly. Two civilians who were critically injured were rushed to hospital.

The Navy personnel rushed to the scene from the Nilaveli camp and a search operation was launched in the vicinity, the sources said.
