Cooray now a Management Trainee at CIR
By Leslie Fernando
CRICKET: 'Sunday Observer' has once again produced the desired
results. The 29th Observer-Bata Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year Awards
Ceremony was held at the BMICH around five weeks ago and hardly had the
celebrations died down came the startling news.
Ceylinco Group of Companies were so taken up with the performance of
Outstation Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year - Ranga cooray, the captain
of Holly Cross College, Kalutara that Ceylinco provided him with
employment as a Management Trainee in the Savings Accounts Division of
Ceylinco Investments and Reality Limited (CIR) by Sanka Wijesinghe.
Ranga Cooray comes from a humble home and though this unassuming boy
is so taken up with the game of cricket, he was finding it difficult to
meet ends meet.
When Ceylinco Investment and Reality team headed by Sanka Wijesinghe
heard about the Observer-Bata Outstation Schoolboy Cricketer Ranga Dias'
plight, they were quick in their response to alleviate his suffering and
has now taken him over so that he will be able to continue with cricket,
and may be go on to bigger things in the game of cricket.
Last Wednesday, Ranga was handed his letter of appointment as
Management Trainee in the Savings Account Division by Sanka Wijesinghe -
Deputy Chairman, International Reality Group.
Ranga is a happy man now. He has to be elated as one problem that has
been worrying him - that's to find employment, has been solved and he
can now forge ahead in the game of cricket that he loves so much.
Ranga was full of praise for Mr. Sanka Wijesinghe - the Deputy
Chairman of Ceylinco International Reality Group and other official who
had made his dream come true.
Besides being picked as the Best Outstation Schoolboy Cricketer he
was also won two other awards - Best Batsman and Best Allrounder in the
Outstation Section and that's fine achievement indeed three awards.
He had the proud distinction of having captained all cricket teams of
Holy Cross College, Kalutara - from under 13 to under 20. He is
continuing to play club cricket for Saracens S.C. and was member of the
Kalutara town Club in the under 23 Premier Cricket Tournament in 2006.
Right now, Ranga hopes to play for Panadura sports Club in the under
23 Premier League Cricket Tournament next season. |
