Mahamaya wins Age Group, Novices titles

SWIMMING: Mahamaya Girls College won both the Age Group and the
Novices championships while Trinity College won the Age Group title with
a thumping lead at the third Central Province Swimming Championship
organised by the Central Province Auqatic Sports Association (CEPASA)
and sponsored by Ferrero Lanka (Pvt) Limited forth 'Nutolla Trophy and
worked off at the Swimming Pool of the University of Peradeniya last
week.
Over 600 competitors participated in the 115 events for boys and
girls organised by the CEPASA which was a roaring success.
Trinity College completely dominated the championship for boys by
producing all the age group champions and amassed 951 points and the
second placed Kingswood College collected only 264 points - a lead of
687 points. Excelling for the lions in water were Shehan de Silva,
Migara Eulangamuwa, Hoshan Unamboowe, skipper Dilina Dissanayake, S. M.
B. Senanayake.
Kingswoodians had the consolation of winning the championship for
Novices by gathering 387 points and Trinity College finished runner up
with 285 points.
Mahamaya Girls College led by Hansani Weeratunga carried everything
before them by winning both the Age Group and Novices championship for
girls but they were given good fight by the second placed Hillwood
College.
In the Age Group Championship Mahamaya totalled 555 points while
Hillwood college came close with 510 points. Excelling in this category
for Mahamaya were skipper Hansani Weeratunga, Madhavi Weeratunga,
Sunethra Wijeratne, Imani Abeykoon and for Hillwood Nisali Dissanayake
who won their respective Age Group events.
In the championship for Novices Mahamaya swimmers were once again to
the fore gathering 275 points and Hillwood College 243 points.
Attilio Capuena of Ferrero Lanka Pvt. Limited was the Chief Guest and
he distributed the main awards with the Principal of Trinity College
Rodorick Gilbert.
