Janashakthi tourney will serve as the yardstick to select pool
SQUASH: The fourth Janashakthi Open Squash Tournament 2007 will be
held from September 29 to October 6 at the Tamil Union squash courts.
This will be an important tournament for the players as it will serve
the purpose of selecting a pool for the World Men's Team Championship to
be held in Chennai, India from December 6 to 12 ,2007.
With the defending champion Saman Tillekeratne and Navin Samarasinghe
both unlikely to participate, it will a good opportunity for the younger
players to stamp their class. Air Commodore A.M.B. Amunugama, the
President of the Sri Lanka Squash Federation said that Tamil Union,
being one of the premier clubs who promotes the game has made the event
an annual one.
Gamika de Silva the Brand Manager of Janashakthi who was present at a
press briefing at the Tamil Union C&AC Auditorium, with regard to the
sponsorship of the tournament said that Janashakthi has been involved in
many sports activities and is committed to help less recognised sports
and providing opportunities for up and coming sportsmen in a long term
basis.
The tournament is open to boys and girls from the ages from 9 to
under 19. The events are: Men's and Women's Open, Novices and Men's over
50, 45, 35.
There will be valuable cash prizes for the winners.
Vice-President of the SLSF Wing Commander Ranjan Samarasinghe,
Captain Palitha Weerasinghe SLSF and Commander L.L.A.de Silva (Sec. SLSF)
were also present.
