Former HQI further remanded

Former Headquarters Inspector of Matale police Sisira Kumara
Jayasekera, who was remanded earlier for failing to appear in court to
face charges in three abduction cases, was further remanded till
December 3 by Mrs. Kumudini Wickramasinghe, High Court Judge, Kandy when
he was produced in court on Thursday.
When the cases were called, Upali Gunaratne with Nimal Jayasinghe
filed an application for bail for the accused. He told court that S. K.
Jayasekera is an accused in three cases of abductions and wrongful
confinements alleged to have taken place during 1989 and 1990.
He said that the accused had been on remand for more than three
months and moved that he be released on bail with conditions.
Shaminda Wickrema, State Counsel, told court that in the early stages
of the cases the accused had appeared in court and in the later stages
he had failed to appear on several occasions.
He said that accused was arrested on warrants issued by court and
produced in court by a special police team and objected to bail. |
