Richmond and Sangamitta Vidyalaya under 16 chess champs

Chess: Richmond College, Galle and Sangamitta Vidyalaya, Galle won the under 16 boys and girls Chess Championships in the Sri Lanka Schools Chess Championships recently.

There were 140 teams from 90 schools that participated in the tournament. In the under 16 boys sections, Richmond College, Galle came on top with Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala as runners-up and Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda were placed third.

Then in the under 16 Girls Championships, Sangamitta Vidyalaya, Galle came on top with Girls High School, Kandy in second place and Mahamaya College, Kandy in third place.

In the under 16 boys 'B' division, Royal College, Polonnaruwa, formerly known as Central College, were the winners with Bandaranayake Vidyalaya, Gampaha runners-up and President's College, Kotte were third.

Then in the under 16 girls 'B' divisions, Anula Vidyalaya, Negegoda were the champions with Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda as runners-up and Vidyakara Balika Vidyalaya, Maharagama in third position.

The 'A' division under 14 Boys Championships went to Ananda College, Colombo with Royal College, Colombo as runners-up and Vidyartha College, Kandy ended up in third position. In the under 14 girls 'A' tournament, Girls High School, Kandy were the champions with Musaeus College as runners-up and Southland Vidyalaya, Galle in third place.

Isipatana Vidyalaya become champions in the under 14 boys 'B' division tournament with Rahula College, Matara as runners-up and Kularatne Maha Vidyalaya Ambalangoda were in third position.

The under 14 Girls 'B' division had St. Mary's Convent, Matara as champions with Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda as runners-up and Lindiya Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy were in third position.
