Peterites in innings win over Trinity

Leg spinner Thivanka Silva took a matchbag of ten wickets as St. Peter's College recorded a historic innings and 29 run victory over Trinity College Kandy in their inter school cricket tournament match concluded at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

The Peterite victory had a great amount of significance because the last time they won against Trinity College was way back in 1981 when they triumphed under the captaincy of Michael Ellias on their home grounds at Bambalapitiya.

Thivanka Silva followed up his four wicket haul in the first innings by returning excellent figures of six wickets for 19 runs and was supported well by Shanaka Fernando who finished with a matchbag of eight wickets. Earlier St. Peter?s College went on to build up a good first innings lead with Sri Lanka youth cap Srimantha Wijeyaratne stroking a fluent 80.

Trinity: 158 and 50 (W. Munasinghe 32, T. Silva 6 for 19, S. Fernando 4 for 21).

St. Peter's: 237 (S. Wijeyaratne 80, S. Rodrigo 37, A. Silva 31, R. Wickremanayake 28, S. Pathirana 4 for 57, C. Umayanga 3 for 70).


Wesley take major honours

Two fighting half centuries from S. Rupasinghe (80) and R. Kern (54) helped Wesley College take major honours in their inter school cricket tournament match against Isipatana College which ended in a draw at Campbell Park yesterday.

Isipatana: 194 S. Senaratne 45, L. Fernando 26, J. Vandersay 6 for 61).

Wesley: 195 for 8 (S. Rupasinghe 80, R. Kern 54, L. Fernando 3 for 30, W. Perera 3 for 56)


Antonians skittled out for 136

A fine spell of bowling from N. Ganei (6 for 46) helped S. Thomas? College dismiss St. Anthony?s College for 136 runs in their first innings on the second day of their inter school cricket tournament match which ended in a draw at Mount Lavinia yesterday.


S. Thomas: 215 for 9 decl. and 18 for 1

St. Anthony's: 136 (A. Riyal 50, G. Dissanayake 23, N. Ganei 6 for 46)


Thurstan recover

Cricket: A 99 run-stand for the ninth wicket between Chamalka Gamage (99) and Ravisha Gamage (24) helped Thurstan to recover from a bad situation as their school cricket match between Royal ended in a draw at Thurstan College grounds yesterday. The match was called off due to bad light and rain at 3.50 p.m.

In reply to Royal's first innings score of 250 for 7 declared, Thurstan were 132 for 8 at one stage. The ninth wicket stand revived Thurstan hopes and were all out for 237. Kusal Perera (84) for Royal and Chamalka Gamage who faced 192 deliveries with ten fours for his 99 were the highest run getters for the two schools.
