Gamini Rupasinghe Chief Instructor of Judo at Colombo YMCA
Judo: Gamini Rupasinghe, One of Sri Lanka's longstanding martial art
exponents and also a Judo expert has been appointed chief instructor
Judo section of the Colombo central YMCA.
Rupasinghe (57), a 6th Dan Black Belt in Karate and second Dan Black
Belt in Judo Kadoka art has trained a large number of students in both
forms, many of whom have proved to be proficient in the state and
private sector.
Rupasinghe, explaining the interpretation of Judo says, means "Gentle
and Do - the way "an art introduced to the world by the late professor
Jigoro Kano Judo is a component of throwing techniques, ground holding
strangling and arm and leg locking techniques."
As chief instructor of judo section of YMCA, Fort, Rupasinghe recalls
that the YMCA Fort was the nerve center in the past to propagating judo
in the country.
As such his aim is to revive judo through the YMCA.
Students could contact Sensei Rupasinghe at the Fort YMCA gymnasium
on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
