Troops destroy two bunkers

Troops attacked five bunkers destroying two of them completely at Nagar Kovil at 9.20 am yesterday.

Defence spokesman Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara said that five LTTE cadres were killed in the attack. The troops also recovered the body of an LTTE cadre and seized a T - 56 weapon and four magazines at Nagar Kovil where the attack took place.

Meanwhile, one LTTE cadre surrendered to the Omanthe police on Friday at 1.30 p.m. through the ICRC. Meanwhile, Air Force fighter jets bombed an LTTE boat manufacturing facility in Murukkandy, west of Iranamadu in the North.

Defence sources said the early morning air raid on the rebel boat facility near Kilinochchi was carried out after some vital information was obtained through ground intelligence sources and air surveillances conducted for a long period.

Intelligence sources revealed that the facility employed mostly female LTTE cardres. The Defence Ministry reported citing air force pilots that the target was completely destroyed in the attack.

Sporadic clashes between the soldiers and the LTTE Tigers attempting to breach the Northern and Wanni Forward Defences in Jaffna. Vavuniya and Mannar fronts killed at least 19 Tigers and injured many others, the military said earlier.
