The buds that bloom in a minute

"Derana Star In A Minute" gives the most promising young talent of Sri Lanka an opportunity of a lifetime

They look around, eyes brimming with hope and anticipation. At times their expressions give away their nervousness, may be with a twitch may be with an awkward stance, may be by seeking refuge behind the mother.

These are all common signs at the Derana Star In A Minute Studio, when hundreds of Sri Lanka's most gifted take centre stage for one minute to show off their talents.

They come from near. They come from after. All of them come with one hope; one dream. To become the Derana Star In A Minute winner, recognised and adored by the people of Sri Lanka.

Creating a stage for little ones to compete and pit their strengths against each other can be seen as treading on dangerous ground. Children are sacred and their feelings and personalities cannot be tempered with. This is just the fundamental upon which Derana Star In a Minute has been conceptualized. The priority was the children.

The ambition was also children. The future also happens to be children. Staging children centric reality show was no mean task and had to weave around a number of critical issues that would undoubtedly either make or break the bond the channel would enjoy with its audience community.

For Derana, it actually proved to be the bridge that made discerning, quality conscious, content driven viewer cross over to the channel from a bouquet of television channels in the market. Today, Derana's Star In A Minute is the channel's most popular programme and its flagship.

Over 10,000 applicants sent in their applications to participate in the programme. Today, with many rounds over, the most promising of them are vying for top honours in three different age categories, namely 4-6, 7-9 and 10-13, where they sing, act, dance, mime or perform in any manner they wish to be counted.

Every Saturday and Sunday from 7-8, these little flowers take the stage and perform to audiences across Sri Lanka, asking to be given a chance to show their talents.

The grand finals of "Derana Star In A Minute" to be staged in January at the Sugathadasa indoor Stadium. Watch the future stars in action every Saturday & Sunday at 7.00 pm on Derana.
