Anuki & Samadhis:
Memory Lane
Culinary excursion
Anuki: It
was a Saturday and Samadhi's Birthday, I was counting the days until
finally it arrived. Do you know why? Well, because she promised a real
treat for me. Though it was her day, when you guys read this will find
that she made my day too.
We walked in to a restaurant which is close to our office and is well
known for mouth-watering food. Of course we have been there several
times, and that was the main reason which made us walk in this
particular restaurant.
Samadhi:
When we first went there, I had fried rice with vegetables. I didn't
want to have the same thing again, but I'm vegetarian there were only
two other vegetarian items in the menu. I ordered something with a
Japanese name because I was sure that it was gonna be edible.
I had learned Japanese at school as well as at the Uni and although I
didn't know what the dish was exactly, I knew that it would not be raw
fish or anything gross. I wrecked my brain to remember the explanation
our text book had to offer for 'Tempura'. Surely it has to have rice
fried/boiled/steamed in some exotic way!
Ok, almost half an hour.... Hunger is excruciating, but the dishes
haven't arrived yet. Finally I see a plate, a huge one at that, making
its way to our table, my mouth waters.... Oh disappointment.... it's
Anukis dish. It looks sumptuous! Where's mine.
Hey wait a minute here it comes.... an equally huge plate. What NO
RICE!!! All I see are some white protrusions around the plate and a huge
mug of soy sauce sitting squat in the middle! Anuki is laughing her
heart out.
Ha ha ha very funny. Uhhhh.... I have gastritis already. No choice
have to eat what I ordered. I take one cautious first bite. Anuki is
laughing holding her stomach. Mmmm come to think of it, it's not soooo
bad. At least the soy sauce is. Remind me never to order anything I
don't know the name of.
Anuki: Well,
it wasn't only Samadhi who go through with these kinds of incidents, we
people generally tend to order the stuff that we never heard of (in
Samadhi's case she didn't have any choice) and end up with an empty
stomach.
I still remember what, laughter we had that afternoon, and thinking
of the incident, especially the hugest plate that we have seen reminds
us to be cautions of what we order when inside of a restaurant. Anyhow I
must thank Samadhi for making the day with a culinary excursion. |
