Lanka Mahila Samithi handicrafts sale

The Lanka Mahila Samithi will hold its annual sale of handicrafts at
the Girls Friendly Society, Green Path, Kollupitiya, Colombo 3 on
November 27 at 10 a.m.
The Chief Guest will be the Canadian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka
Angela Bogdon.
A variety of attractive handicrafts produced by members of the Rural
Samithi in several districts will be on sale. There will be fine
crochet, beeralu lace and lace inserted table cloths and teapot covers
and cushions with traditional Sinhala embroidery from the South while
the Kalutara district Samithi will put on sale sleeping mats, sewing
boxes, hambili for coins, coasters and other rare products.
Baskets of various types and sizes, table mats and other household
articles from raw materials such as hana, watakeiya, ekel and cane from
Kegalle and other districts will vie with Dumbara wall hangings, purses
and letter holders from the Kandy area.
Another attraction will be the smocked children's frocks, night dress
sets and baby dresses from Bulathsinhala.
There will also be a variety of batik items including kaftans,
shirts, sarongs, wall hangings and table cloths with napkins to match
and also attractively drawn thread linen table cloths with napkins.
Tablemats with lace edging as well as bed linen, dusters and a choice of
pottery. |
