GHS and Al Azhar Central-Kandy District Basketball Champs

BASKETBALL: Girls High School, Kandy and Al Azhar Central College, Akurana emerged girls and boys champions in the Basketball Tournament conducted by the Kandy District Sports Development Foundation and Kandy YMCA. The tournament was held at the Trinity College Courts last week. In the girls tournament, Girls High School 'A' beat their 'B' side by 14 points to 4, with M. Watsara scoring eight points for the winners.

In the boys final, Al Azhar Central College beat the better fancied Trinity College team by 24 points to 21 in a closely contested match. M. Ameen scored ten points for the winners while Vidura Warapitiya scored 9 points for Trinity College.

In the men's tourney, Kandy Cagers beat National Seminary, Kandy by 13 points to 11, with P. C. Krishanthan scoring 11 points while M. Dinusha scored 9 points for National Seminary.

In the women's final, Kandy Cagers beat Old High School Girls by 13 points to 11. Anusha Jayaweera scored seven points for the winners while A. Nishaya scored six points for Old High School Girls.
