Sri Lanka Trust to enhance banking education

The Association of the Chartered Bankers of Sri Lanka Trust has shown its commitment to enhance banking education in the country, said Chairman, Bank of Ceylon (BoC) Dr. Gamini Wickramasinghe.

He was addressing a ceremony to launch the program of the Sri Lanka Trust on Thursday. The Sri Lanka Trust is the Local Centre of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, London (CIB).

Dr. Wickramasinghe said the banking industry has become competitive and it needs to keep pace with the developments of the global market. The industry should bridge the gap between local and international business institutions.

"The country's membership at the CIB is declining. Young bankers have the opportunity to obtain professional qualifications at the Manchester University in UK", he said.

President, Local Centre and General Manager, National Savings Bank S.H. Piyasiri said the Centre is collaborating with the Institute of Bankers Sri Lanka (IBSL) to conduct banking symposia and lectures for bankers.

The Local Centre which was launched in May 1990 under the auspices of the CIB, London has helped in furthering banking education and has launched events such as the Inter-Bank Quiz.
