Exhibition and business forum to promote English teaching

An exhibition and business forum on English as a life skill will be held on April 23 at the Hotel Galadari, organized by the BOI and the Presidential Secretariat. The project is an initiative of the President and is implemented through a Special Presidential Task Force.

The Forum and Exhibition is an integral part of this initiative, and is intended to bring together 11 leading English teaching institutes from Chennai, Mumbai and New Delhi and around 275 Sri Lankan English teaching institutes from across the country, including North and East.

Minister of Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion, Dr Sarath Amunugama who will be the Chief Guest, will inaugurate the Forum and deliver the keynote address.

The Indian institutes will participate in the forum and business meetings with local institutes and run stalls at the exhibition. The objective of the program is to transform and upgrade English language teaching in content and methodology at private institutes throughout the country.

The emphasis is on fast-tracking dissemination of job-oriented English language skills with a view to enabling youth to grab the increasing employment opportunities in the modern service sector including IT” enabled services such as BPOs (Business Processing Outsourcing).

The BOI has been promoting private sector educational and training institutes, particularly in the areas of technical skill development including IT and IT-enabled services.

Also, special encouragement through enhanced fiscal incentives is given to encourage the establishment of such institutes in the districts outside Colombo and Gampaha.
