Observer Schoolboy Cricketer of 1985 starred in
Lanka’s World Cup triumph in 1996:
Asanka Pradeep Gurusinha who played a major role
in Sri Lanka winning the World Cup in 1996 as a number three
batsman, was the Observer Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year in 1985,
the year he captained the unbeaten Nalanda College cricket team.

Lanka fares poorly in Davis Cup
Sri Lanka fared very poorly and not only failed
to gain promotion to Group II of the Davis Cup, but just managed to
continue in Group III for the 10th year since 1999. Sri Lanka beat
Malaysia last year (2007), but in Teheran this year, they lost to
the Malaysians and also to the host nation, Iran.

SLRFU make elaborate plans to celebrate centenary
The Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) are
making preparations to celebrate its Centenary this year on a grand
scale with even a banquet which to be held on August 10 at Cinnamon
Grand Hotel. The CRFU (which the SLRFU was earlier known) was formed
in 1908.
