Antonians 20-14

RUGBY: St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota kicked off their 2008 Inter school rugby season on a winning way when they outclassed the Joes outfit in a friendly encounter played at Bogambara stadium recently. The Antonians won by 20 Points (4 Tries) to 14 Points (2 Goals) after the winners led 10-7 at the short breather.

The Antonians will travel down to Colombo when they meet St. Thomas’ College in their Singer Schools League encounter on 26 April. Referee Priyantha Gunaratne.


Trinity 60-nil

RUGBY: Trinity College Kandy playing there first game for the season ran over the home town St. Sylvester’s College by 60 Points (5 Goals, 5 Tries) to nil win yesterday at Pallekelle Rugby Stadium. In this friendly encounter the winners led 21 to nothing at the short breather.

This was an encouraging note for the Trinity side who are yet to enjoy their superior form in schools rugby for a long time. They warmed up for their big one against Isipathana next 25 April in Colombo. Both their forwards and three quarters clicked well and played running rugby. Referee Y. M. K. Ratnayake.


Balasuriya off to Korea

JUDO: A top judo official in Asia - D. N. Balasuriya, who is also a Director of the Organisation of Referees of Sri Lanka Judo Association will leave for South Korea on April 23 to participate as a referee at the Asian Judo Championships to be held in Peju from April 24 to 28.

Right now, Mr. Balasuriya is the judo coach of Prince of Wales college, Moratuwa and Ananda College. Judo seems to be in the life of Mr. Balasuriya as he is overseeing the judo competitions of the three armed services and the Sri Lanka Police.

He is a familiar figure at the big judo events and it is a honour for Sri Lanka as he has been selected to the panel of 12 referees in Asia. He has been associated with judo for the last 33 years.
