Sampath and Seylan banks enter semi finals

Sampath and Seylan Bank entered the semi finals of the Singer sponsored Mercantile 'A' division knock out Cricket limited overs tourney.

At the Bloomfield grounds not a ball was bowled due to a water logged grounds in the match between Sampath Bank and Nawaloka. Sampath Bank on virtue of their number one status according to the tournament rules will play in the semi finals.

In another quarter final match Seylan Beat Hatton National Bank by 5 wickets to enter the semi final at the Thurstan College grounds.

The match began at 2.30 pm and was reduced to 21 over per side. HNB were sent into bat and collected 154 for 6 in their 21 overs. Russel Arnold top scored with an unbeaten 63 off 50 deliveries with seven fours and a six.

Seylan in reply reached the required target 155 for 5 with Thilan Samaraweera (35) and Chanaka Wijesinghe striking an unbeaten 40.

HNB: 154 for 6 in 21 overs (R. Arnold 63 n.o., D. Arnold 25, Nimesh Perera 25).

Seylan Bank: 155 for 5 in 21 overs (T.Samaraweera 35, K.Gunawardena 25, H. Vitharana 20, C. Wijesinghe 40 n.o., R. Dammika 4 for 19).
