Jeevitha Surakina Visadum Sevawa
Jeevitha Surakina Visadum Sevawa, a community medication service with
the aim of assisting patients suffering from diverse heart ailments has
been in operation in the District of Kurunegala.
The service will be launched in the District of Kegalle on April 28,
2008. It has been found out that most number of patients suffering from
heart ailment though can be cured, die in Sri Lanka.
Eighty percent of the persons who suffered heart attacks, paralysed
and subsequently die can be cured by the application of appropriate
methodology. The service provides a training for students, staff in the
hospital and police and Three-wheeler drivers on the methodology of
first aiding such patients.
They will inform the hospital on hot line 110 and the hospital will
send an ambulance with an attending doctor and equipments to ensure that
patient is being transported to Cardiology Unit. Jeevitha Surakina
Visadum Sevawa, a free community medication service, has been initiated
by Consultant Physician Dr. Ranjith Hettihewa and his wife who are
domiciled in Melbourne Australia.
Dr. Ananda Gunasekara, Director Teaching Hospital of Kurunegala, Dr.
Lalith Chandradasa and Ravindra Randeniya and Sunil Ratnayake (Teleview)
have also joined hands in this worthy exercise.
