Aesop's fables :
'I am a big pot'
Retold by Panchamee Hewavissenti
Once a bull was sitting basking in the sun when a gnat landed on its
stiff horn. After lingering on the horn for sometime the gnat buzzed the
bull. "Please don't be hesitant to let me know if my presence on your
horn is too heavy for you to bear. If so I would fly from here and land
on that big banyan tree over there".
The bull shook its head slightly and replied.
"Where are you? I didn't even feel your presence on my horn. You
think you are such a weighty creature. It doesn't matter if you stay or
fly away from me because your presence is not at all felt".
The snobbish gnat however had no other choice than to fly away from
the bull out of great shame.
Moral of the story
There are people whose presence or significance is not felt to
society, but they make every possible effort to emphasise others of
their importance. When the society makes them understand that they are
just trifles which have less or no importance, their ego is permanently
offended and come to realise their own position in society.
Unimportant persons acting to show off an affected importance would
at last fall flat before a vast audience of the society.
