LTTE bunker defences pounded
According to military reports received from the Jaffna theatre of
operation last morning, troops had continued to pound identified LTTE
bunker defences in Ponnar, Muhamalai and Nagarkovil areas during
Friday’s counter terror operations.
IT Park to be set up
An Information Technology (IT) Park will be set up in Sri Lanka by
the Indian Real State Major PS Group in a joint venture with the Sri
Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) and Infinity Park Ltd.
Lanka hails Thai cooperation
Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama met Thai Prime Minister Samak
Sundaravej at the Government House in Bangkok on Friday and expressed
Sri Lanka’s appreciation of the current positive security and
intelligence cooperation with Thailand on the basis of the bilateral
agreement.
Faster train service
India has agreed to provide financial assistance to upgrade the
Southern Railway Line from Colombo to Matara using funds pledged for
tsunami recovery activities, on a request by the Government.
Electronic items seized
A Toronto man was arrested in Sri Lanka after police seized an array
of electronics, including heat-seeking devices, that were shipped from
Canada.
Lankan accepts blood money
The wife of a Sri Lankan worker - who was allegedly stabbed to death
in a frenzied attack - has accepted an offer of QR20,000 blood money
from the family of the accused.
In a statement submitted to a Doha Court, the mother of two said she
would not be seeking further compensation.
SOS: Cancer patient
Twenty-six year old Mrs. K. A. Dilhani Tharanga Ariyawansa of 20,
Dewalalandawatta, Kirindigolla, Ibbagamuwa who was suffering from
abdominal cancer underwent surgery at Peradeniya Teaching Hospital by
Consultant Oncologist Dr. Sarath Wattegama.
For further medication she needs around Rs. 1,200 per a day. To get
cured avoiding further surgery she needs Rs. 127,680. She is not in a
position to meet this amount with her husband, a daily paid manual
employee with no other source of income. She seeks the assistance from
the generous public to send in their contributions to A/c No.
