Ambatale pipeline bursts

The stretch of road between the 28th and 29th kilometre posts on the Colombo-Hanwella low-lying area was washed away on Friday night after the pipeline that carries water to Colombo from Ambatale burst, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Engineer M.B. Tillekeratne told the Sunday Observer. He said the damage to the pipeline was caused due to the level of water rising in the Kelani river.

Repairs to the damaged pipeline will take about two days to restore the full water supply. The Ambatale pipeline was shut down following the damage. More water is being pumped to Colombo from the Kalatuwawa and Labugama reservoirs to ease the water shortage in Colombo and the suburban areas. Motorists have been advised to take alternate routes.
