Wage increase for security guards shortly - SLASSPA
The Sri Lanka Security Service Providers’ Association (SLASSPA) has
called upon all security companies to take steps to increase the
salaries of their employees by at least Rs. 2,500.
Security service companies will be compulsorily bound by law to pay
this increase from the effective date upon gazette notification. Non
compliance will be a violation of the law as this is a statutory
requirement.
As has been the practice in the past, security companies will be
compelled to pass on this increase to the client to meet the enhancement
of costs, a press release issued by the SLASSPA said.
In the present context trade workers such as carpenters, masons and
gardeners earn more than Rs. 700-800 for eight hours while a security
guard who works a 12-hour shift on his feet earns only around Rs.
450-500 per day which is below even a bare subsistence level in today’s
economic environment. The SLASSPA believes that this wage increase will
have a positive impact in motivating security personnel. |
