What went wrong for the Thomians?
What went wrong for the mighty Thomians in their last rugby outing
against St. Joseph's. S. Thomas' which has been enjoying a highly
successful season, were leading 10-5 at half time in their key Lady
Jayatilleke Shield encounter against St. Joseph's at Longden Place on
Friday.
But then came some messages from the dressing room and it appeared to
be an entirely different game plan. Thanks to some poor advice from a
junior coach, the Thomians lost the grip in the second half. Finally,
St. Joseph's beat S. Thomas' 19 points (two goals, one try) to 15 (one
goal, one try, one penalty) to regain the Lady Jayatilleke Shield after
nine years.
Now the big question is whether S. Thomas' sidelined their regular
coach for unseen reasons. Who was the junior coach who was allowed to
change the game plan in the second half? Was it due to pressure by
certain quarters? Those who were witnessing the game were shocked to see
why the Thomians surprisingly struggled in the second half with a
different strategy from a junior coach.
Perhaps the Thomian rugby authorities may have a different picture to
paint but what we have stated above are just how die hard Thomian
supporters at the match felt and observed. |
