Big money on offer at Old Bens S.C. Golden Jubilee Soccer Tourney

SOCCER: Good soccer fare is on the cards with 16 teams - eight
leading club sides and eight formidable schools teams playing in the Old
Benedictines Sports Club organised inter-school and club invitation
soccer tournament starting on Saturday January 17 at St. Benedict’s
College grounds, Kotahena.
Deli Fernando, President, Old Benedictine’s Sports Club said that
this invitation tournament is held to mark the Golden Jubilee of Old
Benedictine’s S.C.
“We have invited top teams from schools and clubs to play in the
tournament. The Schools Football Association and the Football Federation
of Sri Lanka have given their blessings and the OBSC is very thankful to
them for accepting our invitation.” Deli Fernando said.
The teams playing in the club tourney are: Ratnam SC, Renown SC,
Saunders SC, Blue Star SC, Jupiters SC, New Youngs SC, Don Bosco Sc, Old
Bens SC.
The inter-school tournament has De Mazenod College, Ananda, Zahira
College, St. Peter’s College, St. Joseph’s College, Isipatana College,
Hameedia Al-Hussein M.V., St. Benedicts College. Fernando said that the
OBSC Committee has decided to workout matches on weekends - January 17,
18, 24, 25. February 1 and the finals on February 7.
All schools matches will start at 2 p.m. and club matches at 3.45
p.m. The matches will be played on a knockout basis.
In all club and school matches the best player will be selected and
special awards will be made.
The champions in the club section will receive the OBSC Golden
Jubilee Trophy and cash award of rupees one lakh. The runner-up a trophy
and rupees fifty thousand. The schools champions will be presented the
OBSC Golden Jubilee Trophy and rupees fifty thousand. The runner-up
trophy and rupees twenty five thousand. Individual donations have been
received as sponsorship from wellwishers.
