Foreign jobs for Eastern youth

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), with its plans to open a branch office in Batticaloa shortly, is expected to provide foreign job opportunities to the youth in the Eastern province.

The new office is expected to commence a recruitment drive from May 1, SLBFE Chairman, Kingsley Ranawaka told the Sunday Observer. He said the staffers will go on a house-to-house campaign and educate the interested youth on foreign jobs. "In addition, we will also set up training centres to improve the language and skills of prospective applicants,".

Asked about the delay in appointing overseas employment agents in the Northern and Eastern provinces, Ranawaka explained that youth in the two districts had always sought foreign jobs through their respective Labour Department offices.

Ranawaka further said that Kalmunai office will be shifted to Ampara shortly to cater to the needs of a larger number of youth in the district. "The office in Trincomalee will also be upgraded to regional level," he added.
