Sri Dharmaloka vs Gurukula

The 18th one-day cricket match between Sri Dharmaloka Madya Maha Vidyalaya and Gurukula Vidyalaya, Kelaniya will be played at the Premadasa International Cricket Stadium today at 10.00 a.m.


Present Peterites win

The Present Peterite Greats beat Past Peterite Greats 23-5 in a rugby game of chuckers, played for the late I. Hussain Didi Challenge Shield to herald the start of the 2009 Peterite rugby season at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

For the Present St. Peter's team skipper Dilshan Paul scored two tries while fullback Dilshan Gunerathne scored the other try. Keith Gurusinghe put over two penalties for the Present Boys.

For the St. Peter's Past Greats skipper Dilan Abeygoonewardene scored the try.

The Present Boys made up their score from a converted try, two tries and two penalties while the Past Boys scored a solitary try.

Amresh leads as rain a damper

Rain brought the men's singles final and the boys under-16 final to an abrupt halt in the Trans Asia Open Tennis Championship 2009 conducted at the Hotel Courts yesterday.

Results:

Men's singles semi-finals: Amresh Jayawickrema beat Eshan Jayamanne 5/2, 6/1. Artha Hewacottege beat Dineshkanthan Thangarajah 6/4, 5/3. Girls under-8 singles final: Piyumi Wickremasinghe beat Kaumini Nawaragodagedera 6/2.

Girls under-14 final: Dinushi Ranasinghe beat Thisuri Molligoda 6/1, 6/1.

The tournament will continue today. (RA)


Ponting hails match-winner Hussey

CRICKET: DURBAN, April 5, 2009 - Captain Ricky Ponting hailed the return to form of Mike Hussey as Australia gained a crushing 141-run win over South Africa in the first one-day international at Kingsmead Friday.

Hussey hit 83 not out as Australia piled up 286 for seven. South Africa were bowled out for 145 in the opening encounter of a five-match series.

"It's been a difficult few months for him," Ponting said of Hussey, who scored only 132 runs at an average of 22 in a three-match Test series and was out for a duck in a Twenty20 international.
