LatAm defense experts meet in Chile
Defense experts from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Peru and
Venezuela will meet on Friday and Saturday in Chile's capital to discuss
on "Armed Forces, Democracy and Latin American Integration." According
to organizers, participants will analyze different aspects like the
Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), and systems for military and
defense alliances, among others.Also on the list is to review treaties,
pacts and mechanisms of alliances with military implications regional
countries have included, and debate on defense policies, changes of
doctrines, and experiences in Latin America and the European Union.
The incidence of policies like "preventive war" and "war against
terrorism" in the preparation of military doctrines at a regional level
are also included in the agenda.
Carlos Margotta, rector of the University of Arts and Social Sciences
(UARCIS), retired Admiral Armando Amorim Ferreira Vidigal, from the
Brazilian Institute for Strategic Studies, and Alihuen Antileo, director
of the Strategic Studies Center are expected to address the
event.Saturday's activities includes issues like "Defense policies as a
factor for Latin American integration," by Flabian Nievas, director of
the Center of Studies for War, from the Buenos Aires University, and
Galo Eidelstein Silber, researcher from the Center for Defense and
Security Studies (CEDES) Organized by several academic institutions, the
international seminar will take place at the capital's UARCIS.
