Peace has dawned in the country after 27 years and it is a unique
opportunity for all Sri Lankans to make up for the lost time which
should be done immediately said Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Dr. Palitha B. Kohona. He was addressing the AGM of the Forum of
Chartered Institutes.
He said that the immediate challenge is to improve the conditions of
the camps. The water supply is inadequate while sanitation and waste
disposal remains a problem.Providing such facilities for 287,000 persons
in a short time is not easy. Therefore there are vast opportunities for
the private sector. He said that the government is aware that some
private sector entities are participating in the relief effort while
thanking them he encouraged others to join as this is the time to be
counted as the government tries hard to make the temporary stay as
comfortable as possible.
He said that the victory has aroused significant admiration around
the world which if properly managed would produce tangible benefits. |
