Four years ago when the members of Childdrum came together they never thought that they would come so far in their musical career. The members were playing in different rock bands and forming this new band was innovative and creative. And that’s how they struck on the name Childdrum for their band.

A child’s drumming they say has a creativity all its own. Not restricted to any particular style the band has released their first CD Gee Raawe through M. Entertainment. “Our aim is to be a band that provides real music to real music lovers and show what pure Sri Lankan talent feels like” is their endorsement on the liner notes.

“Gee Raawe” the title tune has two versions. The first is a tribute to our Forces and features Samitha Mudunkotuwa - vocals while the other is sung by us John, Esana, Gayan and Dunesh and it is all about what music means to a person” informs John Perera who played the role of spokesman during our chit chat.

“The CD contains twelve tracks and two extra bonus tracks. Our themes are all based on love and our music directors are Qishor Quraishin and M. Rushad. The other members are Gayan Weerakkody - vocals, Dunesh Thrikawala - vocals and lead guitar, Irshan Careem - vocals, he is also our manager and producer.

Then there’s Esana Suraweera - vocals and bass guitar and Chatura Perera our rap singer. The tracks for our songs were laid two years ago and we must say thank you to Aruna Liam for mastering the tracks. We have not been idling before this CD was launched. We have created themes for TV and Radio and the band will be featured at the 11th anniversary celebrations of Sirasa TV.

Composing the songs was a challenge to us, we put our heads and thoughts together to achieve the result we got and we are happy that we can in turn make our fans happy” says an enthusiastic John.

With no formal training in music, the members of Childdrum confess they were interested in composing songs during their schooldays and with their parent’s support, for which they will always be indebted to, their youthful dreams have become an unbelievable reality and they hope that Gee Raawe containing rock, hip hop, r&b , pop and ethnic sounds will be a stepping stone towards a fruitful music career.
