Indian Boys and Girls in lead

Indians were in the lead after the 4th round of the Asian Junior Boys
and Girls Chess Championships conducted by the Chess Federation of Sri
Lanka on behalf of the FIDE and Asian Chess Federation worked off at the
Ceylon Intercontinental Hotel yesterday.
International Master Aswin Jayaram of India with four points out of
four games was in front in the championship while Women's International
Master Padmini Rout also with four points in all four games were in
front in the girls section. The women's grand master Soumya
Swamininathan of India was behind Padmani with 3 points.
Amongst the Sri Lankans P. K. U. M. Jayasundara secured two points
from four games in the championships meanwhile Sri Lanka's women
national champion Sachini Ranasinghe collected two points from four
games and she is placed in 11th position out of twenty players.
Chess players from 11 countries - Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Iran, India,
Kasakhstan, Kyrgystan, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Nepal and Sri Lanka
are taking part in the championships which will be continued till July
7.
According to Luxman Wijesuriya, Secretary, Chess Federation of Sri
Lanka, who is also the Tournament Secretary, Ceylon Continental Hotel
sponsors the Championshilps. Foreign participants appreciated the level
of facilities provided by the hotel.
The results of the championship: Boys Championships Aswin Jayaram
(India) 4 points, B. Adhiban (India), Toufight Homayoon (Iran),
Narayanan Srinath (India), M. Sundar Shyam (India) 3 points each after
four games.
Girls Championship Padmini Rout (India) 4 points, Soumya Swaminathan
(India), Asgarizadeh Minoo (Iran), Hejazipor Mitra (Iran), N. Raghavi
(India) 3 points each from four games. The championships will be
continued today from 9.00 a.m.
