Sri Lanka Insurance celebrates Avurudu

The Chairman and Board of Directors of Sri Lanka Insurance (SLI) hosted employees and their families to a fun-filled day of Avurudu games and entertainment at Police Park grounds, Havelock Road recently. Here Namal Rajapaksa MP hands over prizes to winners. SLI Chairman Gamini Senarath, Managing Director/CEO Mohan de Alwis, Director Kudabalage Piyadasa and General Manager Administration Neil Hapuhinne are also in the picture.


Past student of AOD sets up ‘Just U’

Maneesha Perera, an alumnus of the Academy of Design recently launched her brand Just U - and a chic boutique in Colombo.

“Since my childhood I have been inspired by the creative arts and design. After my school education, I joined AOD which provides international design education,” said Perera.

Although she studied Interior Design at AOD, Perera says that she has a great passion for fashion design too. “Though I chose to study Interior Design, I did not want to let go of my passion for Fashion Designing, and kept myself updated with the latest trends.

Even as an Interior student, the exposure I received through AOD education - in handling clients, being professional and managing time has helped a great deal.


Living Leadership: CEO forum 2011

The Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (AATSL) has organised a CEO Forum on Living Leadership on Monday, May 9 at 7.15 a.m. at the Hotel Galadari. Director and Head of Administration, Education and Research, Finacle Human Resources, Infosys Leadership Institute, India T.V. Mohandas Pai will be the keynote speaker.

A panel discussion with speakers, Group Chief Corporate Officer, Dialog Axiata Plc Kavan Ratnayaka, Group Human Resources director, Hayleys Plc Sunil Dissanayake and Managing director, Aviva NDB Insurance PLC Shah Rouf will follow the moderator Chief Executive Officer, HR Cornucopia Pvt. Ltd., India N. Ahmedali.


Justice Weeramantry to speak at Sustainability Knowledge Hub

The quarterly Sustainability Knowledge Hub organised by the Global Compact Network Ceylon will feature Former Vice President of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Justice Christopher G Weeramantry as the keynote speaker, to be held on the May 11 from 5 pm onwards at the Ceylon Continental Hotel.

Global Compact Sustainability Knowledge Hub events aim to “Drive Economic Growth Sustainably” by equipping the Sri Lankan corporate sector with the necessary knowledge and skills required to practice corporate sustainability.

The forum is organised by Global Compact Network Ceylon, the local network of the world’s largest corporate citizenship initiative, the Global Compact.


Levi's opens store in Moratuwa

Softlogic, the authorised distributor for the jeanswear brand Levi's in Sri Lanka, added to its unique retail store concept with the opening of its third store at the K-Zone in Moratuwa recently. The store caters to the trend setting youth and brand loyalists in and around the vicinity. The opening just before the New Year in April, saw customers visiting the store to make their Avurudu purchases. It is sited as one of the most sought after shops at the K-Zone being designed to international standards in keeping with Levi's brand shops worldwide and to provide its customers a unique and exclusive worldclass shopping experience.


Public, SLT, Mobitel donate Rs. 5m to flood victims in NE

A cheque for Rs. 5,000,000 to aid flood victims in the Northern and Eastern districts was presented by Chairman SLT Nimal Welgama, CEO SLT Greg Young and CEO Mobitel Suren Amarasekera to President Mahinda Rajapaksa recently. Minister of Communication and IT Ranjith Siyambalapitya and his Permanent Secretary Nimal Athukorale were also present. The companies and their employees raised the funds with the help of the general public who made contributions through SMS.


Scanwell Logistics Colombo (Pvt) Ltd., recently recognised the achievements of two of its employees - Asela Silva who successfully completed a Diploma at the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and Shamir Fajudeen who will participate in a rugby tournament in new Zealand. Director Sales and Marketing Roshan Silva and Director Finance Alwin Shu handed over tokens of appreciation to Asela and Shamir at the Scanwell Logistic Auditorium, Colombo recently.
