LHI pioneers coastal engineering
Lanka Hydraulic Institute (LHI) has been exporting on tangibles
through consultancy services in coastal engineering and water resources
studies. LHI's expertise includes a team of engineers well versed in
coastal, urban water and water resources engineering.
The testing and studies required for projects are carried out in the
state-of-the-art flume and model basin in Katubedda. LHI's array of
equipment measures waves, currents, tides, salinity, sediment, wind,
temperature, seismic surveys and borehole testing.
The specifically designed IP cameras allow access to clients in any
part of the world to get visuals of the laboratory and monitor the
progress of projects.
Other IT facilities and virtual shared work spaces within the
company's intranet contribute towards greater connectivity.
This facility of remote collaboration and participation in physical
testing on-line real time web cams and the creation of virtual joint
work spaces within LHI's intranet has made work much easier for clients
who seek services from any part of the world.
LHI operates a modern hydraulic laboratory with reliable technical
and IT support.
It is geared to cater to international needs for specialised physical
and numerical modeling, engineering consultants, construction companies,
property developers, governments and universities. LHI's professional
and technical expertise in coastal, port engineering and coastal zone
management can be seen across ports and harbours in various parts of the
world.
LHI provided modeling studies on wave characteristics and structural
stability for dredge disposal and land reclamation areas for the Busan
New Port of Korea.
It has conducted all wave, current, tide, float tracking and bottom
grab sample measurements at the Iran harbour-Marina, Kish island.
Krishnapattinam and Kolkata harbours.
They were provided with LHI's 3D physical modeling to optimise the
layout of the harbours.
LHI carried out a study for dredging for deepening and widening of
passes in Rodrigues Islands in Mauritius, hydraulic physical modeling
studies in Al Marjan islands in UAE and study of the oil jetty
development at Massawa Harbour in Erithria.
LHI has carried out several projects in Sri Lanka's harbours such as
the South harbour in the Colombo Port, Hambantota and Galle ports and
fishery harbours.
