Over 1,400 agriculture officers for N-E

The Government has implemented massive livelihood and infrastructure development projects in the North and the East under the Mahinda Chinthana national development concept.

The Government has taken steps to appoint 1,474 Assistant Agriculture Research Officers to the Northern and Eastern Provinces.

The interviews to select these officers will be held shortly, according to Agrarian Services and Wildlife Minister S.M. Chandrasena. The immediate absorption of these officers to the service will help expedite the livelihood development projects being implemented under the Uthuru Wasanthaya and Negenahira Navodaya development drives, Minister Chandrasena said.

He said 8,860 assistant agriculture research officers are presently employed throughout the country. However, vacancies exist for them in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.

The Cabinet has granted permission to these appointments, the Minister said.
