No additional charges on power consumers using less than 120 units
There will be no additional charges on consumers whose monthly
electricity bill does not exceed 120 units, the Power and Energy
Ministry said yesterday.
A 25 percent relief will also be granted to places of religious
worship, the ministry said.
The ministry also said the public can contact 2392607 for inquires.
Meanwhile Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said an
uninterrupted electricity supply can be provided to consumers as all
thermal plants including the Puttalam plant, are working continuously
and small power stations are contributing towards meeting the demand.
The minister speaking at the opening of an e-city office at the CEB
regional engineers office along the Kurunegala-Kandy road today said
even though the demand for electricity has increased, it was the CEB’s
duty to provide electricity to the people without any shortage.
“However there may be interruptions to electricity supply if there
was a breakdown of any power station,” he said.
The minister appealed to the public to assist in conserving
electricity by switching off unnecessary lights.
The minister said the CEB has drawn up a five year master plan to
transform the institution into a financially viable institution by 2015
and stand on its own without depending on others.
