The new Buddhist Shrine at the
Information Department, Colombo 5 was consecrated recently.
Here Economic Development Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardane
and Director General Information Prof. Ariyaratna Athugala
paying homage to the Buddha at the event. The employees of
the Information Department conducted an alms-giving to the
Maha Sangha led by Viharadhipathi Ven. Uduwe Dhammaloka
Thera of the Alan Mathiniyarama Vihara, Polhengoda to mark
the occasion. |

A special meeting was held in connection
with the Hajj pilgrimage at the Prime Minister’s residence

There were tears of joy when the 670km
journey of Trail, a walk from Dondra to Point Pedro, to
raise funds to build a paediatric cancer ward at the Jaffna
General Hospital was completed. Here a trustee of the
Colours of Courage Trust and Group Director of MAS Holdings,
Dian Gomes, initiator of Trail and Trustee of the Colours of
Courage Trust who walked the entire journey, Chief Executive
Officer MAS Design, Nathan Sivagananathan and Mrs
Sivagananathan, the mother of Nathan Sivagananathan who came
to Sri Lanka from England, to welcome her son at Point
Pedro. The final ceremony was graced by Hambantota MP Namal

Launch of English Sri Lanka
The launching of the national program, English Sri
Lanka, the free spoken English course for youth in Sri Lanka and the
Excursion Award Ceremony 2011, will be held at the Ananda College
Auditorium today at 9.30 am with the participation of Higher
Education Minister S B Dissanayake.
The English Sri Lanka program is implemented
islandwide simultaneously, under the guidance of Managing Director
Pujith Wijesinghe.
This program facilitates youth of low-income and
under-privileged families to undergo courses in spoken English free
of charge.
Free spoken English workshops will also be held
covering all districts.
