New Managing Director at Emerchemie NB-1

Azarn Jaward has been appointed Managing Director succeeding Nimal Dias- Jayasinha.

Jaward who has nearly two decades of experience in the pharmaceutical field and has previously functioned as the Country Manager of American Remedies in Tanzania and as Country Manager of the New York Stock Exchange quoted Dr. Reddys Laboratories Limited in Sri Lanka.

Educated at Trinity College Kandy, he holds an MBA from the University of Manipal and has had exposure to a multiplicity of training programs.

Jaward is determined to drive Emercheme NB towards the pinnacle of success through defined processes and by meeting the demands of the market. Jaward said “ the pharmaceutical market is Sri Lanka has potential and Emerchemie NB is a Company which has begun to enjoy a market share of 10 percent in a short span of 12 years and which remains a much admired outfit due to its unique culture and modalities of operation. Quite naturally I consider it a springboard to display my skills and capacities and remain committed to drive it to be the best Pharma Outfit in Sri Lanka”. With a panache for training and employee development, he has defined plans to empower the entire staff of the Company through selective processes of training and placement and thereby improving productivity exponentially.

Interestingly, Jaward considers ‘medium-term’ planning to be the most important.

He opines that the short-term needs will be attended to as a matter of course and quite often that long -term planning only refers to numbers, which have little meaning or possibilities due mostly to the significant changes in the market variables which are most often beyond one’s control.

His objective is to improve, diversify and develop the Emerchemie NB portfolio towards a goal of Rs 5 b by 2015, which he feels is realistic and challenging to keep him in the hunt and on his toes.

?Touching on the local pharmaceutical market which grows around 20 percent annually and which is valued at Rs 30 b, he took up the position that the better products which were made available at affordable prices always won the doctors franchise and it was his position that the doctor should be the final arbiter when it comes to the selection of medicines for a patient.

“Only the doctor understands the patients unique needs and he knows best” were the parting words of Jaward who obviously is looking forward to an enjoyable and enriching career at Emerchemie NB.
