‘Garments without Guilt’ conferred leadership in CSR award
Sri Lanka Apparel’s ‘Garments Without Guilt’, the industry’s ethical
sourcing platform, bagged the leadership in CSR award at the Blue Dart
Express (part of DHL Group)’s annual global CSR awards at Mumbai’s Taj
Lands’ End, recently.
The awards recognise Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) champions
across various industries and were part of the world’s first CSR day.
The world CSR day and global CSR awards were in conjunction with
DHL’s first Corporate Responsibility day in India and comprised two
panel discussions; CSR, ‘the way forward’ and ‘public-private
partnership for a greener planet’. The awards merit recognition to
contributions made by an organisation which has made a difference to the
people and communities it operates in.
Awards are research- based and decided by an independent jury. The
‘Garments without Guilt’ proposition positions Sri Lanka as a preferred
ethical apparel sourcing destination, with core values of conscience and
care. The Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF), the watchdog of Sri
Lanka’s garment industry ensures that protecting worker rights, creating
opportunities for worker education and personal growth are embodied into
the culture of the apparel manufacturing companies and that
doing business with integrity helps create a more equitable society.
“We are delighted to be conferred this prestigious award” said
Secretary General of JAAF. “Recognition such as this amplifies our
effort in doing business with integrity and showcases our track record
of best practices and best governance among our workers” he said.
The Blue Dart Global CSR Award jury included Director General and
CEO, Dr Bhaskar Chatterjee, Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs,
Professor Indira Parikh, President, and Foundation for Liberal and
Management Education, India’s iconic HR leader, Dr T.V Rao and Chairman
and MD, Onward Technologies Ltd, former chairman world HRD congress and
founder member of NASSCOM, Harish Mehta.
