Lanka-UAE enhance anti-narcotics cooperation
The Dubai Police have forwarded confidential information to the Sri
Lankan authorities about an Asian passenger, identified as DT, to be
arrested upon her arrival at the Colombo airport.She was coming from
Brazil, and when searched she was found with 1.5 kilograms of cocaine.
The suspect had hidden the narcotics in four plastic boxes containing
138 chocolate pieces in a handbag.Sri Lankan authorities thanked the
Dubai Police in an official letter and looked forward to more
cooperation between the two parties.
They said that the suspect was in touch with an African working in
Thailand and that she admitted to receiving the narcotics from a person
in Lima, Peru.
She then left for Brazil and from there to Sri Lanka.
The Anti-Narcotics Department at the Dubai Police foiled a number of
international attempts to smuggle narcotics during the first two months
of this year and was thanked by security bodies of these countries such
as Ivory Coast, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
Within this cooperation, authorities at the Abidjan Airport in Ivory
Coast foiled a bid to smuggle drugs by an African known as ABC after
they received information from the Dubai Police. He was arrested once he
arrived at the airport from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The inspectors seized two kilograms of cocaine hidden in his baggage.
