As a tribute to their economic, social and political achievements:

Mobitel Liyasara for women

International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide on March 8 to pay tribute to women across the world for their economic, social and political achievements. Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel believes that women are a vital element in society and its development, from the upbringing of a family’s offspring to being a pillar in every family and organisation.

Chief Executive Officer, Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel Lalith De Siva makes the official presentation of the first Mobitel ‘Liyasara’ SIM card to First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa. Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Deputy Minister of Child Development and Women’s Affairs M.L.A.M. Hisbullah. Anoma Laphir, Director Mobitel ,Wijesiri Ambawatte, Director Mobitel and Jean Fernandez, Senior General Manager Mobitel (Customer Care) look on.

The company over the years, supported this belief by providing special facilities and services for women.

In line with this initiative, Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel launched Liyasara, a package for women in Sri Lanka which enables customers to have easy access to information relating to child psychology, cerebral palsy, maternal and new born health and cancer awareness among others.

In addition to these information services, all customers under 65 years of age obtaining the Mobitel ‘Liyasara’ package would receive a special life insurance cover. The premium for the insurance cover is included in the monthly rental, which is provided at a nominal fee. obitel ‘Liyasara’ customers will enjoy the benefits of Rs. 100,000 worth of Life Insurance cover and a Rs. 500,000 Accidental Death cover.

Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel launched the package on International Women’s Day in the presence of First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa and other dignitaries at Temple Trees.

The first Liyasara SIM card was presented to the First Lady.

The package is inclusive of a limited bundle offer granting free Mobitel-to-Mobitel voice calls and SMS to users and a free data bundle of 10 MB. Customers are also entitled to free minutes to access the ‘Liyasara’ voice portal, powered by Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel and can also use the mTunes facility free of monthly subscription.

‘Liyasara’ voice portal is a lifestyle portal providing Mobitel customers with information on nutrition and dieting, recipes, fashion and beauty tips, household remedies, child psychology and Health and celebrity news.

Mobitel conducted extensive research with its partners prior to designing the package for women. Observations made during this exercise showed that women based in rural areas in the country have no access to reliable and consistent information relating to maternal health, child psychology, cancer awareness and other important health concerns.

The Mobitel ‘Liyasara’ package was therefore created with the aim of empowering Lankan women by granting unlimited and convenient access to credible information disseminated in all three languages by expert institutions such as the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Cerebral Palsy Lanka Foundation, Sri Lanka College of Oncologists and the Perinatal Society of Sri Lanka.

Women find themselves playing the demanding roles of daughter, wife, mother, friend and caregiver in society and attend to varying situations in their daily routines.

Mobitel aspires to carry forward similar initiatives in the future for the betterment of such women.

Chief Executive Officer of Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, Lalith De Silva said, “As the National Mobile Services Provider, Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel remains committed to honouring and paying tribute to women of Sri Lanka, whose contributions towards their families and society have not gone unobserved.

As a nationally aligned mobile services provider, we worked towards an initiative that would be a fitting tribute to these remarkable women that would help empower their lives and add value to their daily engagements. With this in mind, we created the Mobitel ‘Liyasara’ package that has been customised to suit the needs of all women, be it relating to motherhood, health, professional commitments or domestic situations.

With this new package, we envision a more empowered Sri Lankan woman who can better achieve her goals by having ready access to the world of information knowledge and communication.”
