Anti HIV/AIDS campaign in Colombo
The Asian Football Confederation’s U-13 Girls’ Football Tournament
now under way in Sri Lanka is not only a football carnival for the
footballers but has also benefited the general public through an
awareness outreach program that promotes healthy living without HIV and
AIDS.
The Public Awareness Program on HIV and AIDs was carried out on
Friday in numerous public areas in the Sri Lankan capital such as public
transportation stops and hubs by volunteers, including Sri Lankan senior
women’s team skipper Shanika Rajapaksha, who helped promote the message
by distributing leaflets and brochures.The awareness campaign was part
of the AFC Dream Asia program at the two-week girls’ tournament,
participated by six nations, which will culminate with five exciting
days of matches kicking off today.
Dream Asia is a movement that uses the power of football for positive
social change. It is led by AFC, a centre of expertise and coordinator
of a global network of organisations in the field of development through
football.Early morning on Friday at the main railway station in Colombo,
10,000 handouts prepared by the Ministry of Health in Sinhalese language
were distributed to the public.
