Anti HIV/AIDS campaign in Colombo

The Asian Football Confederation’s U-13 Girls’ Football Tournament now under way in Sri Lanka is not only a football carnival for the footballers but has also benefited the general public through an awareness outreach program that promotes healthy living without HIV and AIDS.

The Public Awareness Program on HIV and AIDs was carried out on Friday in numerous public areas in the Sri Lankan capital such as public transportation stops and hubs by volunteers, including Sri Lankan senior women’s team skipper Shanika Rajapaksha, who helped promote the message by distributing leaflets and brochures. The awareness campaign was part of the AFC Dream Asia program at the two-week girls’ tournament, participated by six nations, which will culminate with five exciting days of matches kicking off today.

Dream Asia is a movement that uses the power of football for positive social change. It is led by AFC, a centre of expertise and coordinator of a global network of organisations in the field of development through football.Early morning on Friday at the main railway station in Colombo, 10,000 handouts prepared by the Ministry of Health in Sinhalese language were distributed to the public.
