Compensation for Mannar shop owners

Traders who owned the burnt down shops in Mannar received Rs.200,000
each as compensation for their losses. The cheques were presented to
these affected shop owners at Mannar in the presence of local Government
officials.
A fire broke out in Mannar town on March 01 that destroyed nearly 35
shops. According to the Regional Commissioner of Mannar District only 24
traders have submitted their documents to the authorities to arrange
compensation. At the time this news was sent to print the cause of fire
was under investigation.
"The local authorities are taking necessary steps to make temporary
arrangements for the traders to resume operations soon," said Northern
Province Governor Major General G.A. Chandrasiri.
Out of the total compensation the first Rs. 100,000 is paid
immediately and the balance will be paid within six months.On the
instructions of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa
compensation was issued through the office of the Northern Province
Governor.
