Kahawatte killing - suspects further remanded
by Jayampathy Jayasinghe
The three suspects linked to the killing of Nayana Nilmini and her
daughter Kavindi Chaturangani at Kotakethana, Kahawatte on January 31
were further remanded by the Pelmadulla Magistrate until investigations
are completed by the CID.
Police Media Spokesman SP, Ajith Rohana said the wife of Dharshana
alias Raju who allegedly stabbed the mother and the daughter to death
had made a confession to the Pelmadulla Magistrate regarding the
incident.
SP Ajith Rohana denied reports in certain media that there was
political pressure on the police to shield the main suspect in the
Kahawatte massacre who was a brother of the Kahawatte Pradeshiya Sabha
member in the Ratnapura district. He said the delay in arresting the
suspects was due to the painstaking investigations being carried out by
the police to collect evidence to link the suspects to the killing.
"A criminal investigation case cannot be completed overnight like any
other job", he said.
