Royal in rousing 45-5 win over DSS

Defending League Champions Royal College began their rugby season
with a rousing 45 points (5 goals, 2 tries) to 5 (1 try) win over D.S.
Senanayake College in the Singer Under 19 League rugby match played at
the Royal College Sports Complex grounds yesterday.
The winners led 31-0 at the breather.

DSSC making a come back to 'A' Division after a lapse of couple of
years was simply outplayed by a superior outfit who scored five tries
within the first forty minutes of play with not much resistance coming
from their opponents. Royal skipper Arshard Jamaldeen had a grand match
playing exceptionally well while attacking and defending.
Royal opened scoring in the 6th minute of the game when prop Iroshan
de Alwis made a powerful run to score near the corner flag for an
unconverted try. Minutes later winger Nimshan Jayawardene kicked ahead
followed it and scored by the corner flag and Jamaldeen made no mistake
with the conversion.
With DSSC defence lapsing Royal went on to plant three more tries
when winger Nimshan Jayawardene gave the finishing touches to a three
quarter move and Ijaz Bohoran working on the blind side touched down and
Jamaldeen added the extra points with a fine conversion.
Royal extended their lead minutes before the short whistle when
Arshard Jamaldeen crashed through the DSSC defence off a three quarter
move.
Jamaldeen himself made the conversion and Royal took a healthy 31-0
lead at the half way mark.DSSC gave a better display in the second half
particularly with some effective tackling that put the brakes on the
marauding Royal forwards. DSSC three quarters while making some
impressive breaks defended well at the same time.
They scored their solitary try off a short tap when Mohammed Irshad
touched down for an unconverted try.
It took over twenty minutes for Royal to cross the DSSC line. It was
Royal skipper Jamaldeen once again helped his side to add more valuable
points by scoring off a short tap in the DSSC '25'.
During the dying stages of the match substitute centre S. Bahudeen
scored for Jamaldeen to add the extra points to make it 45-5.
