Raids against errant mercantile firms intensified

The Labour Department has intensified raids on mercantile establishments which default EPF and ETF remittances on a directive from Labour Relations and Productivity Promotion Minister Gamini Lokuge.

The Labour Minister said that it is a prerequisite for institutions to register with the Labour Department.

He said that stern action would be taken against the defaulters following complaints by employees.

The Labour Minister has introduced a new system whereby defaulting institutions could be easily detected and remedial measures taken to provide relief to those affected.
