Call to reintroduce Nano Science in schools
Sri Lanka should popularise Nano Science at
school level to gain economic control in nano technology- based
industries. Nano Science should be re-introduced in school
syllabuses said Dr. Prabath Hewageegana of the Department of Physics
of the University of Kelaniya.

GSK invests Rs 217m on tablet manufacturing facility
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), one of the world's
leading research-based pharmaceutical manufacturing company opened
its pharmaceutical tablets manufacturing facility at Ratmalana last
week. The factory was opened by Minister of Economic Development,
Basil Rajapaksa.

Colombo Port records 11 percent yoy growth
The Colombo port recorded an 11 percent
year-on-year growth compared to the port of Singapore and Salalah
said Managing Director Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), Capt. Nihal
Keppetipola. He was addressing the seventh Southern Asia Ports,
Logistics and Shipping 2012 Sri Lanka on Thursday.

plans are under way to open seven to eight outlets during this

IFC, SANASA Insurance pilot weather index insurance for farmers

working with micro-insurance company SANASA Insurance to develop
flexible, affordable, weather-based agricultural insurance products
in Sri Lanka to minimise the impact of crop losses due to floods or

Costa Rica calls at Colombo Port
The vessel Costa Victoria, a cruise ship owned
and operated by Costa Crociere, made its call at the Colombo harbour
on Tuesday. The 292 metre-long, seven-storey vessel carrying 1,304
passengers was on its way from the Maldives to Thailand, according
to Sri Lanka Ports Authority sources.
