Chairperson of the Bank, Ms. Kumudhini Kulatunga handing over the MoU to Asst. General Manager (Marketing, Banking and Finance) of E-Wis Nalaka Ranasinghe. Also in the picture is the General Manager and CEO of the Bank Lasantha Amarasekera.

Lankaputhra Development Bank is implementing a loan scheme to promote computer literacy among local enterepreneurs, professionals and public sector employees. Laptops could be obtained under this loan scheme to gain computer literacy and IT knowledge. The scheme also serves as a boost for the government's program to promote knowledge in Information Technology.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed recently at the Head Office of Lankaputhra Development Bank. It was signed between Lankaputhra Development Bank and E-Wis.

"IT knowledge is considered essential towards enhancing productivity at Government Institutions. A majority of parents lack resources to purchase laptops outright and this scheme helps overcome this obstacle by providing an opportunity to them to purchase laptops on easy payment terms, a spokesman for the Bank said.

Chairperson of the Bank, Ms Kumudhini Kulatunga said the Bank was exploring the possibility of extending the facility to the private sector as well as higher educational institutions.

The Lankaputhra Development Bank was launched with the objective of boosting the national economy. Towards this end, the Bank has already launched several projects to benefit the small and medium entrepreneurial sectors. The Bank operates several minors' savings accounts, offering attractive rates of interest. Lankaputhra Development Bank also offers leasing facilities.
