ComBank records growth in ‘Inter-Bank Electronic’ payments
The
Commercial Bank of Ceylon has been recognised as the ‘Bank with the
Highest Growth’ in the ‘High Volume Bank Category’ among banks using the
Sri Lanka Inter Bank Payment System (SLIPS) in 2011-12.
The award, presented by LankaClear (Pvt) Ltd., acknowledges
Commercial Bank as the most active in Inter-Bank Electronic Payments
during the last financial year with the top award among the big banks
that conducted over a million transactions.
Leo Burnett wins Cannes Lion Metal
Leo
Burnett Solutions Inc. was recognised at the prestigious Cannes Lions
International Festival of Creativity by winning Metal in the Best
Consumer Engagement category for work done for the Mawbima newspaper,
with their national flag concept.
The national flag initiative was created by Leo Burnett Sri Lanka in
partnership with Starcom to celebrate the national day.
Logiventures launches automotive logistics
The
Hayleys Group is offering comprehensive automotive logistics solutions
through its logistics services subsidiary Logiventures to importers
clearing their vehicles at the Magam Ruhunupura Mahinda Rajapaksa Port
in Hambantota.
The company cleared its first shipment of 850 vehicles on June 15
when the NYK Line vessel Cygnus Leader called at the port.
Logiventures said it would work closely with NYK Line to expand its
engagement with the automotive industry in Sri Lanka.
ICTA to monitor Mahaweli water levels
The
ICT Agency (ICTA)will provide information about water levels of the
Mahaweli reservoir via SMS, using mobile phones. A spokesman for ICTA
said that this will be of immense help to farmers to plan agricultural
activities in a systematic manner.
“It was decided to inform the farming community through SMS when the
water level goes down to 40 percent and when it rises to between 90
percent and 95 percent.
Susantha
Silva appointed to HDFC Board
L. E. Susantha Silva was appointed to the Board at the Annual General
Meeting of the HDFC Bank recently.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri
Lanka, a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants and
a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Professional Managers and B.Com
(SP) Degree with a second class (upper division) from the University of
Kelaniya.
He is at present the Managing Director of Ceylon Petroleum
Corporation and has vast experience and exposure locally and
internationally in Business Management.
NCE workshop on ASYCUDA
The
National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka (NCE) and the Shippers
Academy (SA) organised a workshop to discuss, various issues in the post
introduction of ASYCUDA world and online bill payments with the
participation of all the institutions providing trade facilitation via
e-commerce to understand the problems and resolve issues before further
facilities are implemented in the coming months by the institutions. The
workshop will be held on July 5 from 8.30-12 at the Sri Lanka Foundation
Institute.

Target based tour for channel partners
Debug,
the authorised distributor for Epson had a target based tour promotion
for channel partners. It had two tour promotions for the first and
second tier channel partners based on their performance on Epson Inkget
and photoprinters, multifunction printers, dot matrix printers,
multimedia projectors and consumables for 2011/12. Top performers were
offered an all expense paid three nights, four days star class luxury
cruise tour.
The American Chamber of Commerce
(AmCham) will conduct a forum at Hilton Colombo on June 27 from 9
a.m. to 12 p.m. free for undergraduates who are about to embark on a
corporate journey. The theme of the forum is ‘Entering the corporate
